"Make Your Bed"
by Admiral William H. McRaven
I’m drawn to inspirational books that offer simple, practical, and motivating lessons that I can apply in my own life. Make Your Bed by Admiral William McRaven, a retired Navy SEAL, is one of those powerful reads.
As someone who starts each day by making my bed, I love how the book highlights how small actions can spark a sense of pride and purpose. It reminded me that even consistent positive actions can build confidence and discipline, as well. Admiral McRaven shares stories from his military career that demonstrate courage, hope, and resilience—qualities that can inspire anyone, anywhere.
One chapter left a lasting impression on me. During the brutal "Hell Week" of SEAL training—after six grueling days of exhaustion and pain—some trainees were on the verge of quitting. Then, out of nowhere, one of them began to sing loudly. That unexpected act of defiance broke the tension and lifted spirits, creating a ripple effect that brought the group back together with no one quitting. It was a powerful reminder that in our darkest moments, a single voice, a single act, can inspire hope and unify others.
